Do you know what the judges will be looking for?

The review team and Judges are eagerly awaiting to see what you built! While you finish your project over the next few weeks, keep in mind how judging will work. There are also final two office hour sessions on the Google Developer Community Discord:

  • Tuesday November 14 11am PT
  • Monday November 20 11am PT

Judging Stage One
Submissions are locked in on November 20 at 11:45pm ET  and then Stage One of judging commences. The review team at Devpost and Google will review submission videos and your Open Source Code to ensure they are eligible and meet a baseline level of viability to move to Stage Two. At a minimum, this means the submission includes all of the below items:

  • Eligible Project. A brand new experience in one of the categories by either A) developing a location-based, AR experience with Geospatial Creator in Adobe Aero or Unity, or B) developing a virtual immersive experience with Photorealistic 3D Tiles.
  • Open Source Code. A URL to your open source code repository for the project if it is a virtual immersive experience with Photorealistic 3D Tiles or an AR experience built with Unity. For an AR experience built in Adobe Aero, you only need to submit a demonstration video. The code repository should have instructions and everything the review team and judges will need to test the project.
  • Demo video. Include a video (about 3 minutes) that demonstrates your submission. Videos must be uploaded to YouTube and made public.

Note: if you submit your project at least one week before the deadline, your submission might be checked for baseline eligibility in advance, and you will receive a message if any part of your submission requires revisions. So, submit early to make sure nothing gets in the way of your submission being fully eligible!

Judging Stage Two
The submissions that pass Stage One will then be sent to a Judging Panel! Those judges will review submission materials and score your project according to each of the below judging criteria from 1 to 5 (5 being the best).

  • Functionality
How scalable is the application? How well are the APIs used within the project? Can it be used in other regions, or can it be used by more than one type of audience?
  • Purpose
Are you solving an existing problem? Is it an application that would encourage a user to use it more than once for its benefits?
  • Content
How creative is the application? What’s the visual quality like?
  • User Experience
How well executed is the application? Is it easy to use and understand?
  • Technical Execution
How well are you showcasing Geospatial Creator and/or Photorealistic 3D Tiles?

Please note that the judges are not required to download or test your project and will depend heavily on the presentation of your project in action within your video.

Best of luck as you continue to prepare for the judges!
